Abstract

The objective is to study the frequency and peculiarities of the clinical and endoscopic picture of the involvement of organs of the gastroduodenal zone in the pathological process in patients with UC. Material and methods.  28 patients with UC between the ages of 18 and 20, 19 men and 9 women, were observed. All patients underwent colonoscopy. The state of the mucous membrane of the colon, vascular pattern, the presence of erythema, fine or coarse granulation, contact bleeding and vulnerability of the mucosa, erosive or ulcerative changes of the mucosa of the colon served as UC criteria and degree of its severity. To assess the state of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, all patients underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Results. The prevalence of pathological process in the large intestine was observed: proctitis was found in 7 patients, 15 patients developed proctosigmoiditis, left-sided colitis was found in 6 patients.  Determined severity: minimum level of activity was identified in 6 patients, moderate level of activity was identified in 17 patients and high level of activity was seen in 5 patients. Performing endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract reflux esophagitis was found in 28.5% of patients, 53.5% of patients developed some changes in the stomach and 46.4% of them developed some changes in duodenal bulb. No pathological changes in the esophagus, stomach and duodenum were found in 4 examined patients. Conclusions. It was established that the upper gastrointestinal tract was involved in the pathological process in 85.7 % of patients with UC. Endoscopy revealed inflammatory, erosive and ulcerative changes. Severity of lesions of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum depended on the stage of the severity of UC.
