Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a common condition that predisposes individuals to the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Menopause is associated with a fall in estrogen levels which accompanied many health changes. Changes in the hormone levels at menopause, in particular estrogen deficiency are associated with an increase in body fat. It is dangerous for woman’s health since it leads to elevated blood pressure, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. These changes may contribute to increased risks of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in menopause women. Obesity shares with most chronic diseases the presence of an immunity dysbalance, which accounts for the development of metabolic disease and other associated health alterations. The objective of the study is to investigate the bioflavonoid Quercetin and ω-3 PUFA impacts on some components of adaptive immunity in menopausal women with MetS. Material and methods: 80 menopausal women with MetS were observed. All participants were divided into four groups: І group – basic therapy; ІІ group (19 patients) – basic therapy + Quercetin; ІІІ group (21 patients) - basic therapy + ω-3 PUFA; IV group (20 patients) - basic therapy + ω-3 PUFA + Quercetin. We investigated the serum levels of basic immunoglobulines, and concentration of circulating immune complexes with different molecular weight.  Results: the use of Quercetin showed the most significant results for dynamics of Ig G and Ig M levels and similar results in the concentration of low and middle mass of CIC. Conclusions: the additional use of Quercetin has a strong impact on the components of adaptive immunity in menopausal women with metabolic syndrome.
